Death of Beloved Pet
February 9, 2010
As the days have gone by several of our clients have lost their beloved furkids to old age or long time illness. It is hard to cope with the emptiness that a beloved pet has left behind. Will the emptiness ever be filled..? Not only does the family and caregivers feel the sadness and emptiness of the loss but so do the other pets that are left behind..left wondering where did their brother or sister go without saying goodbye. It is truly hard when a family of 3 pets becomes only 1. The emptiness is felt stronger with the double impact of the loss of mutiple pets at the same time. How do you feel the void..? How do you heal the pain of wishing you did more with your pet? How do you cope?
I dread the day that I have to come to terms with the death of my beloved Shadow and Marty since they are the elderly pets in our household. They have their own personalities and their own little quirks that make you laugh or get on your last nerve. But, through it all.. you love them unconditional as they love you unconditional and no questions asked. That is what helps make us cope..remembering the good times..the sad times..and remembering all the love..unconditional love they gave us. They never loved us because we were rich or poor…tall or short….skinny or fat…they loved us because we where who we were…their Mom or Dad…their place to rest their head when they had a rough day…we were HOME…
Pet Care Providers
February 8, 2010
Can we take much more of this dreaded weather..one day it is cold..the next cold and raining..then we are up to 90 degrees then a day or two later snow..we are supposed to have a possible chance of snow on Thursday..is that just not crazy..
Todays clients (mainly poop scoop) clients have been pushed to Tuesday due to the weather (excessive rain & lightening). Forecast calls for sun on Tuesday..yeah..
This is one of the two hardest parts of a pet care provider is dealing with the elements. Most of us it does not bother. I for one do not mind being rained on..UNLESS there is lightening..which happens to be the case for today. We get up earlier than most people do to go to work and we go to bed later than most people do because we finish up our last sit around 9 or 10 Pm or we may be heading to a house to spend the night with some fur clients. Whatever the case may be we work long hours and do not mind because we love what we do..if we didn’t we wouldn’t be doing it. My favorite part of the day is seeing all the excitement when a pup sees me walk through the door and they know it is play time. The saddest part of our jobs..dealing with a death of an elderly fur client or a fur client that has finally lost their battle to a long illness. It is strange to walk into house and not see them anymore..it takes some time to get used to not seeing them..We also watch pets that are in foster care and recently one of our clients foster got adopted and on our next visit he will be in his new forever home..we are happy for them but we will miss them dearly especially if they move far away..
Do not get me wrong I love what I do and wished I started doing this years ago..but I am very happy I am finally in the right place. I would never have it any other way now…

February 7, 2010
Fellah has been in foster care with one of our clients. We found out today (2-9-2010) that he was adopted and will go to his new forever home on Friday. Fellah will be an only furkid (for now). Fellah had a wonderful foster family and lots of brothers and sisters. We had the wonderful opportunity to get to know him. He has a great personality and can open any baby gate on the market.. Read Fellah’s story on the GALT website.

Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food ProductsFranklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) — Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier. Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food. This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO® dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats. Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further. Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian. Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO® dry cat food product. Cat owners who have more questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST
